Business Litigation:

We understand that going to court over a business dispute is never the first choice. Yet good faith disputes do arise and our attorneys are experienced in evaluating the business issues involved, and, if appropriate, litigating to conclusion. Our attorneys have arbitrated, mediated and tried complex business disputes including shareholder disputes, dissolution actions, derivative actions, unfair trade practices claims and a variety of contract disputes.

Municipal Liability:

We have defended cities and towns and the boards of education for those municipalities in state and federal court actions including Section 1983 claims as well as claims of highway defect.

Administrative Litigation:

Located within miles of the state capitol and the state administrative agencies, we represent companies and individuals before a variety of administrative agencies, negotiating resolutions with the state agency attorneys and trying matters to completion at hearing.

Appeals:

Our attorneys have not only tried cases in all the superior and federal courts in Connecticut, but we have also handled appeals before the Connecticut Appellate and Supreme Courts as well as the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mediation and Arbitration:

We are not only experienced in participating in mediations and arbitrations, but also in presiding over them as mediators and arbitrators, including personal injury, products liability and business disputes. In addition, we serve as hearing officers for several municipal and state agencies.

Personal Injury:

Based on our attorneys' extensive experience in defending personal injury actions, our attorneys are uniquely prepared to also prosecute selected personal injury actions involving serious injury accidents.

Tribal Law

Connecticut is home to two federally recognized sovereign tribal nations: the Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. Both nations have their own legal jurisdictions consisting of unique practice rules and laws. Lawyers must be admitted to each nation’s bar in order to practice in their respective court systems. Conway Stoughton’s Tribal Practice Group’s understanding of, and experience with, tribal law allows us to successfully represent our clients and help them navigate through the nuances of these sovereign nations within Connecticut. Indeed, our experience in this regard covers a broad spectrum of litigation activity ranging from pre-suit investigations designed to limit client exposure all the way through trial.
